SYSTEM

Here is an overview of our system:

STEP 1 – LESSON OFFER
When we have students in your area we will send you details for a free trial lesson which is paid if they join.

STEP 2 – CONFIRMATION
If you are available to teach the student, please respond to that email ASAP.

STEP 3 – FREE TRIAL LESSON
We will then contact you with further details about the trial lesson (day / time / location / lesson plan etc.), and meet / skype to explain what to do.

STEP 4 – STUDENT JOINS
If the student joins they become your student and you can arrange the schedule accordingly.

STEP 5 – LESSON REPORT
At the end of the month we will ask you to send in your lesson reports for your students.

STEP 6 – PAYMENT
We pay teachers on the 10th of every month via bank deposit for the previous months work (we will ask for your bank details).

Using this stable system we can offer many students to good teachers.

We only employe native speakers of English who have a valid visa to live and work in Japan.
Experience is not necessary although it will help.
We match teachers according the the students requests.
Responding fast to offers with a clear date/time you can teach will help us introduce you as the teacher.

PAYMENT

We receive lesson payments for each month from the student.
On the 10th of each month we pay teachers for how many lessons they have taught.
This information will be part of your monthly report.
This means you will always have regular payment even if the student cancels suddenly
At the end of each month we will send you a payment report to fill out.
Payments are made on the 10th of each month for the previous months work.
We can only pay into Japanese Bank accounts in the teachers name.
On your first monthly teaching report please enter your bank details in the space provided.
Cafe lessons are paid at ¥2,500 / hr.
Home / Office lessons are paid at ¥3,000 / hr.
This rate is set and cannot be negotiated.
You will find this is higher than most English salaries in Japan.
Teachers are hired as contractors and as such are responsible for their own tax at the end of the year.
No, travel fees are not covered.
Please only take on students near your home station, or that you are comfortable with.
No, any drinks you buy you will have to pay for.
We mostly use Starbucks for trial lessons which means the minimum cost is ¥110 for a bottle of water.

TRIAL LESSONS

This is the first lesson we arrange to see if you are a match with the student.
It is paid if the student decides to continue lessons.
We see about 80% of students join after trial lessons.
The main reason that the student doesn’t join is they didn’t understand the teacher or the teacher was late or untidy.
We recommend the following template to use during trial lessons:
## Trial Lesson ##
10 min – your introduction / questions
15 min- their introduction / questions
10 min – English experience?
10 min – goals / why study?
10 min – discuss normal lesson plan / textbooks
5 min – schedule / system
RECOMMENDED TEXTBOOK: Interchange 1 / Conversation Gambits
After the student joins and we have confirmed payment we will contact you with their details.
Please do not teach until you receive this confirmation as you cannot be paid for those lessons.

SCHEDULING STUDENTS

You can teach as many as your schedule allows.
Most teachers are working part time so have about 5~10 students.
We send offers for new students every day.
Please reply as soon as you can with clear information about the date/time you are available.
Casual clothes are fine however the more professional you are the more students will join.
If the student cancels within one hour of the lesson you will still be paid for the lesson.

LESSON CONTENT

At the trial lesson you will discuss with the student their goals and what they would like to learn.
We usually find about 1/2 textbook, 1/2 conversation is the best mix.
We recommend the following template:
20-25 min – conversation
15-20 min – textbooks
10-15 min – practical english / roleplays
RECOMMENDED TEXTBOOK: Interchange 1

If the student wants homework please give them some extra content to do at home.
If they don’t, please don’t give them homework.

PAYMENT REPORT

At the end of each month we will send you a payment report to fill out with lessons taught and bank details.

Trial lessons are also paid so please include them.
